Just as an electron microscope can explore a whole unseen world in a speck of dust, so a previously unheard audio landscape can be revealed by considering music on a granular – perhaps even molecular – scale.
For the tracks included in this collection, 391 took mere snatches (often no more than a bar or two) of regular music and processed them to the point where their traditional parameters – melody, key, rhythm etc. – all but lost their meaning, and the resulting pieces took on a whole spectrum of new characteristics in their place.
